The Annual Meetings, taking place from 12–18 October, bring together policymakers, financial institutions, business leaders and development stakeholders to discuss global economic challenges and opportunities. (worldbank.org)

For Alam, the opening day provided an opportunity to consider how these global discussions connect with Bangladesh’s development priorities—particularly artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and the future of its young people.

His participation reflected a focus on the foundations Bangladesh needs to benefit from AI: reliable digital connectivity, access to computing resources, secure data systems and practical technology education. Building these foundations can help young people move beyond using technology to developing solutions, establishing businesses and competing in international markets.

Alam’s message centred on investing in the bright future of Bangladesh’s youth. As AI changes how businesses operate and the skills employers require, investment in infrastructure must go hand in hand with opportunities to learn, innovate and gain practical experience.

Universities, industry and development partners have an important role in this effort. Closer cooperation can connect education with emerging technologies, support applied research and help students develop skills that translate into meaningful employment and entrepreneurship.

His first-day attendance placed these priorities within a wider international conversation about growth and development. For Bangladesh, the opportunity lies in turning technological progress into broader access to education, stronger businesses and new possibilities for the next generation.
